It is organized and hosted by the combined efforts of Surajkund Mela Authority and Haryana Tourism in quislingism with the Union Ministries of Tourism, Textiles, Culture, External Affairs, and Government of Haryana. Since its start in 1987, this mela or fair has assisted in the revival of many artisans of the extincting arts and craft traditions of India. Also, it attracts lakhs and lakhs of visitors, domestic as well as foreign, every year.

    Surajkund International Crafts Mela 2014 will display few of the most splendid handicrafts and handlooms of India.     • Senior citizens, serving soldiers, and differently-abled are entitled to 50% discount on entry tickets
    • During weekdays, college students are entitled to 50% discount on entry tickets to Surajkund Mela 2014. They can avail the discounted price on showing their college identity cards
    • Specially for women, e-ticketing counters have been set up

    Facilities at Surajkund Crafts Mela 2014

    1. Concrete benches are made throughout the mela area with the aim to assists the visitors relax a bit, especially the senior citizens, women and children.
    2. For senior citizens, and differently-abled, wheel chairs / golf carts / Battery operated Rickshaws will be available
    3. CCTV camera and night vision cameras are installed for the safety of visitors
    4. There will be increased number of security personnel at the Surajkund Crafts Mela for better safety of the visitors
    5. Newly constructed two electronic toilets will be available for public use at the festival. These toilets are assured of having good hygiene sanitary facilities as they feature automatic flush, automatic washing of floor.

    In view of increased number of visitors at Surajkund mela, the authority has increased the overall parking area for vehicles. It is believed that it will simplify the parking process, revamped clear and easy gates for entry and exit have been developed for every parking area.

    How to Reach the venue of Surajkund Mela 2014?


    Surajkund International Crafts Mela is organized annually at Faridabad, Haryana, India; away from the city humdrum. It is located 8 Km from South Delhi, India and has good connectivity with roadways, railways and airways.

    Through Delhi Metro: Reach Badarpur Metro Station on the Violet Line via any place in Delhi having Metro connectivity. Tughlakabad, Sarita Vihar and Mohan Estate are some of the metro stations nearby the Badarpur Metro Station. The nearest metro station to surajkund mela 2014 is Badarpur Metro Station. Also, Tughlakabad Metro Station is nearer to surajkund mela 2014.

    Badarpur is located close to the interstate border in-between Delhi & Faridabad. From here, you will have to take the road transportation to reach the venue of Surajkund Mela 2014.

    Note: You can also take an auto rickshaw from Tughlakabad Metro Station.

    Through Road: Surajkund is well-connected to Delhi, Faridabad and Gurgaon through road. You can hire private coaches, taxis or you can reach the destination by your own conveyance.

    During the time of this fair, specially conducted buses are operated from different locations in Delhi and Gurgaon. These buses are a convenient option for many as passengers can board them from popular places (such as ISBT, Shivaji Stadium, Gurgaon, Faridabad) and directly reach the Surajkund Crafts Mela 2014.

    Through Air: The location is nearby 25 km from the popular Palam Airport. In a private cab or own conveyance, it will take about 35 minutes to reach Surajkund from the Indira Gandhi International Airport (time might increase due to heavy traffic).

    Through Indian Railways: To reach the venue of Surajkund Festival, you can travel by train up to Delhi, as it is the nearest Railway Junction. Also, Gurgaon and Faridabad are two most popular stations of the Indian Railways. From Delhi Railway Station, you can take the Delhi Metro or a cab to reach the venue.     This February, get ready to witness the special diversity of the Indian culture and traditions in a milieu drafted to symbolize the ethos of the rural India. The Surajkund Mela 2014 will showcase various handlooms, handicrafts, cultures and culinary art of Goa – the theme state of this festival. Goa has been selected as the theme state for Surajkund Mela 2014 after a gap of 12 years. According to the Managing Director of Haryana Tourism, this year's mela will give visitors a unique experience of the exclusive heritage of Sri Lanka and Goa. They will experience the multi colored platform of Surajkund that will refresh their mind and body.

    In the 28th Surajkund International Crafts Mela 2014, Sri Lanka has been selected as the partner nation. Few specific craftsmen will showcase their handloom work and handicraft products of their country in a way that will virtually take you to the tropical island nation. Also, the Sri Lankan cultural troupes will give dance performances at Chaupal and Natyashala. Along with this, the top chefs of the country will sprinkle an amalgamation of mouth-watering delicacies of Sri Lanka in the Food Court.

    History of Surajkund Mela


    Surajkund Crafts Mela is organized every year at Surajkund, located near the border of Faridabad and Delhi, India. Also called Surajkund Festival, this fair or mela was primarily conceived for the advertising and promotion of those skilled craftsmen (artists, painters, weavers and sculptors), who developed products using native technology and were having a bad fate due to the cheaper machine-made impersonations. From its commencement in 1987, this colorful and traditional Indian craft fair has served as the strong platform for all the aforesaid artisans to directly sell their products to end customers; eliminating the middlemen from the overall picture.

    Surajkund Mela 2013 made the record with 20 participating countries. This year also, the participation of all the SAARC nations is expected. In addition to the participating countries in 2013, following countries are believed to take part in it:
